10/29 How Mental Illness Ruined Robert Schumann
The great works of Robert Schumann, the great German composer who lived in the 19th century, almost pale into insignificance when the troubles that plagued his life are taken into account. Those troubles included mental illness which made him try to commit suicide in 1844.Robert Schumann had thrown himself into the Rhine hoping to end his life of depression but he was rescued and taken into a mental asylum. Not only did Robert Schumann fail to recover from the mental illness, the illness was passed on to his seven children who, among other things, suffered from schizophrenia.
